
The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) completed drilling five borings on the Glen Cove site to collect data that will be used to aid in the construction of any future substation upgrades. LIPA has also recently relocated a utility pole on the site to facilitate the completion of the remedial action.
Posillico has performed pre mobilization activities and has begun removing trees from the site in order to create the necessary open space to complete the project. The tree removal was performed in accordance with the City of Glen Cove, New York rules and regulations.
Posillico has performed an onsite survey to document existing conditions prior to the start of remedial activities.
Two-Week Outlook
Posillico will begin mobilizing more equipment and personnel to the Glen Cove site starting on May 25, 2010. Posillico will be performing re-grading work associated with excavation area preparations, for equipment and trailer staging areas and for the site access road. Posillico will also begin installation of erosion control measures per the design specifications and drawings.
AECOM and GEI personnel will be mobilizing to the site on May 24, 2010.
GEI, acting as the environmental consultant for the project, has begun the process of preparing to install Community Air Monitoring Program (CAMP) stations at six locations around the site. Previous air monitoring had been performed using mobile stations which were setup and removed daily. The new stations will be in place through the completion of the excavation and run 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
