Work on the Substation will fully commence in late January 2011. Beginning in January, residents may begin noticing preliminary pre-mobilization activities occurring at the site. Prior to remediation activities on site, National Grid will be installing a retaining wall as part of the overall project to support and safely execute the remediation activities. It is expected that the wall construction and remediation activities will take approximately 120 days to complete. Work will be conducted Monday-Friday from 7:00 AM until 6:00 PM. Due to logistical constraints associated with the ongoing operations of the substation, National Grid had postponed the remedial project work mid to late February 2011.
The City of Glen Cove has authorized a daytime parking ban from 7:00 AM until 6:00 PM Monday through Fridays for approximately 50 feet on each side of the entry to the site at the corners of Grove and Stanco Streets. This ban will provide adequate space for trucks entering and leaving the Site. No Parking signs will be posted and the ban will be enforced by the Glen Cove police. Flyers outlining the parking changes will be distributed in January.
The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) previously installed a temporary utility pole outside of the excavation area. This pole will temporarily replace the one located within the excavation area. The completion of the power reroute was completed in September.
A fact sheet summarizing the project and its impacts to the residents will also be mailed to residents prior to the beginning of work. The Phase I Remedial Action Work Plan has been finalized, and is in the Key Documents/Major Reports section of this website.
