Work on the former Manufactured Gas Plant site at the LIPA substation in Glen Cove commenced on February 28, 2011. The first work included the mobilization of equipment and other items necessary to execute the scope of work. The work performed for this week included installation of the dewatering wells and the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) installation and operation. Work also included commencing the excavation, transportation and disposal of impacted soils within the slide rail shoring grid boxes across the site. Excavation areas were then backfilled with clean fill. It is expected that with the wall construction, followed by the remedial excavation, the total project will take approximately 120 days to complete.
