LIPA commenced their substation expansion project after Phase 1 of the environmental remediation work on the former Manufactured Gas Plant site at the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) substation in Glen Cove concluded in June 2011. LIPA’s project has progressed in phases from 2012 through 2016. LIPA completed the final subsurface construction in December 2016.
National Grid is preparing to mobilize to the site to complete Phase 2 of the site remediation. This will include the installation of a groundwater treatment system in the northwest corner of the site. The Phase 2 work will be conducted over approximately 1 month and will be completed with smaller equipment and have a minimal impact on the community. Upon completion of the system installation, quarterly groundwater monitoring will commence.
The finalized Phase II Remedial Action Work Plan can also be found in the Key Documents/Major Reports section of this website.
This web site will updated weekly during the Phase 2 remedial work to ensure the community is informed of the project schedule and progress. Upon completion of the work, it will be updated as developments warrant. Reports related to the remediation project will be posted to the Key Documents section of the website as they are completed.
